ob Summary
Synechron is seeking a proficient Data Engineer to support the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, efficient data pipelines and enterprise data solutions. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, implement data management strategies, and ensure data quality, security, and availability. The Data Engineer will leverage experience in cloud platforms, big data tools, and modern development practices to enable data-driven decision-making and operational excellence across the organization.
Role purpose
Lead the DevOps function to deliver secure, reliable and scalable build/release/operate capabilities for a Java + ReactJS + NodeJS estate. You’ll own the CI/CD strategy, production operations, automation, and security-by-design practices, while coaching engineers and partnering with Engineering, Cybersecurity, Architecture and Product teams. You’ll also drive practical AI literacy and responsible use of AI tools to improve delivery efficiency and operational outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Platform, automation & operations
- Own and evolve the DevOps operating model (on-call, incident management, change/release governance, runbooks, SLAs/SLOs).
- Build and maintain automation for provisioning, configuration, deployment and operational tasks (basic Linux + shell scripting focus).
- Manage NodeJS process operations using PM2 (ecosystem configs, clustering, log management, restarts, health checks, startup scripts).
- Manage Apache rproxy configuration.
- Ensure high availability, performance and resilience across environments (dev/sit/uat/prod).
- Drive observability: logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, dashboards, and actionable runbooks.
CI/CD & release engineering
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines for Java services and ReactJS/NodeJS applications.
- Implement quality gates (unit/integration tests, security scanning, code quality, artefact integrity).
- Understanding of versioning, artefact repositories, deployment patterns, rollback strategies and release reporting.
Cybersecurity & risk management (DevSecOps)
- Embed security controls into pipelines and runtime operations (shift-left security).
- Ensure secure configuration baselines for Linux hosts and application runtime (hardening, least privilege, secure logging).
- Support threat modelling and remediation tracking; ensure evidence collection for audits and compliance needs.
Leadership & stakeholder management
- Lead, mentor and develop DevOps engineers; set standards, review work, and raise engineering maturity.
- Collaborate with developers, QA, SRE/Operations, DBAs and security teams to remove delivery bottlenecks.
- Communicate clearly with senior stakeholders on risks, delivery status, incidents, and improvement plans.
AI literacy & responsible adoption
- Promote practical AI usage in DevOps (e.g., log analysis, incident triage, pipeline optimization, documentation generation) while ensuring data confidentiality and responsible use.
- Establish guardrails for AI-assisted engineering (prompt hygiene, no sensitive data exposure, validation of outputs, traceability).
Required skills & experience (must-have)
- Basic Linux administration experience in production/non-production environments.
- Strong shell scripting (Bash) for automation, troubleshooting and operational tooling.
- Hands-on experience operating NodeJS applications with PM2 (process management, clustering, monitoring, log rotation, startup).
- Proven DevOps leadership experience (technical lead/lead engineer/DevOps lead) with ownership of delivery and operations.
- CI/CD pipeline engineering experience for Java and JavaScript stacks (ReactJS/NodeJS).
- Solid understanding of Cybersecurity/DevSecOps practices: vulnerability management, secrets, IAM/least privilege, secure configuration, audit evidence.
- Incident management experience (triage, RCA, problem management, post-incident improvements).
- AI literacy: ability to use AI tools effectively and safely to improve productivity and operational outcomes.
Desirable skills (nice-to-have)
- Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform/Ansible) and configuration management.
- Containerization and orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes) if applicable to your environment.
- Observability tooling (e.g., ELK/Splunk, APM tools).
- Oracle PL/SQL understanding, Oracle thick client setup (supporting deployments, coordinating with DBAs).
- Experience with performance tuning, capacity planning and resilience testing.
- Experience working in regulated environments with strong controls and audit requirements.
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Cloud certifications are beneficial
- Team uplift: clear standards, improved automation coverage, and stronger cross-team collaboration.
- Tooling specifics (Jenkins/GitLab/GitHub Actions, Nexus/Artifactory, Splunk, etc.)
